Pivot point, support en resistance berekeningen zijn algemeen aanvaard als de simpelste en meest effectieve trading strategieën. Traders, banken en alle financiële instellingen vertrouwen op deze strategieën als duidelijke indicatoren van de sterkte of zwakte van de markt. Ze worden gebruikt als basis voor de meeste technische analyses. Het pivot point (draaipunt) is het punt waar het marktgevoel van bearish (negatief koerskanaal) naar bullish (positief koerskanaal) veranderd.
